Towards the end of 2025, Avensure, a long-time customer of Apex Computing’s expanded their services with us to adopt AI into the workplace through Microsoft Copilot.
Before adopting Copilot, Avensure’s Special Projects team faced the challenge of reviewing lengthy, complex case documentation within tight timeframes. A key part of the team’s role involved interviewing high-risk cases referred by Employment Law Consultants, then meeting with consultants to agree appropriate next steps. This requires careful analysis of referral forms, supporting evidence, notes and case history.
The main challenge wasn’t simply accessing information, but processing and summarising large volumes of detail efficiently while still maintaining accuracy, professional judgement and accountability.
Key challenges included:
“Copilot has helped with time management by speeding up review of lengthy documents and producing balanced summaries that highlight potential risks for further consideration… I was cautious how much to rely on [Copilot’s] output; however, as I have used it more, I have found it to be a valuable tool for improving my productivity and efficiency – especially when reviewing or summarising longer documents.” – Chantelle Thornton, Emploement Law Consultant, Avensure
Avensure introduced Copilot to help the Special Projects team manage complex work more efficiently, particularly by accelerating document review and case summarisation.
While the initial decision and implementation were led by senior management and Avensure’s IT/technology team, the rollout gave the Special Projects team practical guidance on how Copilot within their day-to-day role.
Copilot has been used to summarise key case materials, including high-risk referral forms, supporting documentation, reviewer notes and case history. This helps consultants build a clearer overview of what has happened so far, what questions still need addressing and what direction the case is taking.
For lengthy documents and complex case files, Copilot has helped speed up the review process by producing summaries that highlight key themes and potential risks for further consideration, utilising Copilot as a support tool. Consultant still verify accuracy, review the full case and make the final decision when advising employers.
Avensure launched Copilot in their team with a small group piloting the licenses, and working over a number of sessions with Apex and Microsoft experts to understand what Copilot could do and ask any questions they had.
Avensure’s team reveived practical guidance, showing how Copilot could be used effectively within their roles, including examples relevant to case review. The guidance and onboarding materials provided to the team helped the team to understand where Copilot fits into their workflow and how to use it effectively.
One standout use case has been supporting continuity when a consultant is absent and a case has moved forward. In these situations, Copilot can help summarise the high-risk referral form, including the referring consultant’s information and reviewer notes, into a clear overview.
Copilot had also been used to support the re-drafting of questions for investigations and disciplinary hearings. By providing case context, relevant policies, supporting evidence and draft questions, Copilot has been able to suggest improvements and alternate wording, which consultants can then refine and expand, all with peace of mind that the data is secure within their IT environment.
“I can see Copilot being valuable across the wider [team] – particularly for summarising and structuring complex information… Over time, confidence has grown as we have experimented with prompts and learned how Copilot can support our case reviews while still keeping human oversight and accountability.” – Chantelle Thornton, Emploement Law Consultant, Avensure
Although Avensure is still in the early stages of Copilot adoption, the team has already begun to see the value of using AI to support complex case review. Copilot has helped improve productivity and efficiency by supporting document review, summarisation and case preparation, while still keeping human oversight at the centre of the process.
Thanks to the adoption of Copilot, Avensure now benefits from:
